Bottle Cap: how to play

Hold a soju bottle cap and take turns flicking its rolled metal tail. When the tail breaks off, the two people beside the player who broke it take the forfeit.

Players

3 or more, seated in a circle. The player immediately on the left and the player immediately on the right must be two different people.

What you need

A metal screw cap from a soju bottle with its long tamper strip still attached. Keep the cap separate from the bottle. If the strip has already broken off, use another cap.

Setup

Twist or roll the attached metal strip into a compact tail, leaving its attachment intact. Agree that the two neighbors of the person who breaks it take the forfeit. Choose a playful, optional forfeit before starting.

How to play

  1. Prepare the cap by rolling its attached metal strip into a little tail. Pick a first player and a direction around the circle.
  2. The current player holds the cap body steady in one hand and flicks the tail once with a finger of the other hand. If it stays attached, pass the cap to the next player.
  3. Repeat until a flick snaps the tail off. The person who broke it is safe; their immediate left and right neighbors take the agreed forfeit.

Example round

Alex holds the cap and flicks once; the tail stays attached. Alex passes it to Sam. Sam’s flick breaks the tail. Alex and Jordan, sitting immediately to Sam’s left and right, take the forfeit. Sam is safe.

When the round ends

The two people beside the person who snaps the tail take the agreed forfeit. The person who snapped it does not. Reset with a new cap for another round.

Common mistake

Keep hold of the cap body. Flick the metal tail rather than spinning the whole cap or reading where it points. Do not pull the tail off by hand; stop handling any sharp broken edge.

No-alcohol version

Use any metal screw cap that has a tamper strip, such as one from a soda bottle, or a cap from an empty bottle. The forfeit can be something light and optional, such as telling a short story or choosing the next game.

Play responsibly

Soju Playland is for adults. If you choose to drink, you must be of legal drinking age where you are (for example 19 in South Korea and 21 in the United States) — and the site itself is for ages 18 and up. Drinking is never part of the rules: nobody has to drink, a pass is always fine, and water or soda works for every game. Never pressure anyone to drink, never treat these games as a drinking contest, and never drink and drive.
