Pan: how to play

Agree once: a miss is “out this round” or “takes the turn”. Don’t flip the special later. Pick a caller.

Players

3 or more.

What you need

One flat hand. That’s the pan. Diner style.

Setup

Agree once: a miss is “out this round” or “takes the turn”. Don’t flip the special later. Pick a caller.

How to play

  1. Caller holds the pan out and names a person plus a number: who, and how many hands.
  2. That many people slap a hand on the pan. Now. Not after the pie.
  3. Count the hands.

Example round

Caller says “Sam, three”. Three hands hit the pan. Count ’em. Don’t argue with the stack.

When the round ends

Wrong count, or the named person freezes, and that person is out this round. Right count: they take the turn.

Common mistake

Changing the out rule after a bad count, or a late slap that jumps the number. Too slow, pal.

No-alcohol version

Play exactly the same rules with water, soda, tea or no drinks at all. When someone is out this round, they simply sit out, start the next round, or take a light forfeit the table agreed on beforehand — such as choosing the next game or spinning the wheel.

Play responsibly

Soju Playland is for adults. If you choose to drink, you must be of legal drinking age where you are (for example 19 in South Korea and 21 in the United States) — and the site itself is for ages 18 and up. Drinking is never part of the rules: nobody has to drink, a pass is always fine, and water or soda works for every game. Never pressure anyone to drink, never treat these games as a drinking contest, and never drink and drive.
